Like an artist who is improving his skills, HP is consistently improving the design of its laptops with each new product. Now, with Specter x360 (2022), the manufacturer is releasing a masterpiece. HP’s Specter Series delivers amazing laptops year after year.

Therefore, when we say that the Specter x360 (2022) offers a different level of design, it means something. Not only is one of the most beautiful laptops on the planet in front of you, thanks to its diamond-cut edges and stylish profile but it is also just as beautiful from the inside. HP equipped the laptop with powerful Intel Whiskey Lake processors. Which made it possible to increase battery life, a combination that makes it the best laptop for programming right now.

HP Spectre Design:

The Specter x360’s smooth aluminum chassis is beautifully outlined with faceted edges and sharply chamfered corners that look like they are carved by a master jeweler. These aggressive tilt angles lend the Specter x360 the sophisticated elegance you expect from exorbitantly expensive products.

In the center of the stylish lid of the laptop, you will find a modernly executed HP logo with gold chrome. Holding the lid up, you will see a gold-plated touchpad next to the Specter branding. Above the keyboard is the speaker grill, made in a beautiful triangular pattern. Bang & Olufsen branding is located directly below it, and a dedicated fingerprint scanner is located in the lower right corner of the keyboard panel.

Performance:

Equipped with an Intel Core i7-8565U processor and 16 GB of RAM, the Specter x360 13 (2022) matched our habits and offered web surfing without too much effort.HP x360 offers such a powerful combination that allows the software students to run their desired softwares with ease.

Moreover, it also allows multitasking without any pause or we say without lagging or lowering down the overall performance of the system. Along with that, it also enables you to enjoy gaming and more entertainment in your leisure time.

Storage:

The Hybrid 2 in 1 laptop is featured with the 512 GB of the SSD storage. That’s good enough for the students to store their docs, projects, and softwares. Moreover, the SSD drive speeds up the read-write and boot-up operations.

Screen:

HP Spectre comes in different sizes like 13.3 and 15.6 inches respectively. This HP Spectre x360 is featured with the 13.3 inches of the wide full HD touchscreen. Along with that, it also has the 360 degrees of the hinge that allows you to change the laptop into different modes like tent mode, tablet mode and stand mode.

Now if we talk about the screen resolution of the HP it has the maximum screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with the IPS display.

Graphics:

Since it uses the Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics processor, the Specter x360’s graphics performance remains average among ultrabooks. You should not have problems working with demanding programs, including Adobe Photoshop, or even playing modern games, subject to low graphics settings. But for more demanding tasks you will need a discrete graphics card.

Connectivity Ports:

The Specter x360 13 (2022) does not offer a wide selection of ports, but users who prefer a bundle with an eye to the future will welcome the Thunderbolt 3 on the right side of the laptop. Which offers lightning-fast data transfer speeds and the ability to connect to multiple 4K monitors and an external GPU.

Also on the right side of the laptop, you will find a headphone/microphone jack and a microSD card slot. A lone USB 3.1 Type-A port is located on the left side of the laptop, which is a welcome addition, given that most modern ultrabooks abandoned it in favor of a thinner design.

The second Thunderbolt 3 charging port is neatly hidden in the right beveled corner of the Specter x360. A well-thought-out arrangement makes it easy to connect the power cord without having to move the device, the angle of rotation of the port does not interfere with the laying of the cord.

Keyboard and TouchPad:

HP does it again by installing a super-comfortable keyboard in a razor-thin case. Thanks to the 1.4-mm stroke of the keys, the Specter x360 chicklet keyboard goes deeper than most competing ultrachic. Yes, the indicator is slightly less than our preference of 1.5 mm, but the keys still work great and offer tactile feedback, possibly due to the ideal 70 grams of pressing force.

Even better, the keys are large, well located and offer two levels of brightness with backlight, the high level of which is really quite bright. Returning to the design of this handsome man, even the simple, large font used by HP on the keys looks stylish.

The Specter x360 touch panel is 4.7 x 2.3 inches, quickly responds to any touch, you should not underestimate the margin of space. That allows you to perform gestures with your fingers, use three fingers to change the window or pinch to enlarge the image.

Surface Book 2 is a great choice for any programmer, as Microsoft has created one of the most powerful hybrid laptops on the planet. In the end, it boasts powerful enough components to cope with almost any task, including light games in your free time. If you need a larger diagonal display, there is a 15-inch model that offers an even more powerful configuration, although much more expensive.

Design:

In our review of the 13.5 -inch Surface Book 2 model, we noted that the design has not changed much from the original Surface Book, except that the laptop has become larger to squeeze a 15-inch screen.

Since the 13.5-inch Surface Book 2, model has a screen the same size as the original model, this means that the difference in design is even less obvious. So, Microsoft made the laptop bigger, which became thinner and lighter, which is always welcome. Another big difference between the design of the 13.5-inch Surface Book 2 and the 15-inch model is that the 13.5-inch Surface Book 2 comes without a fan.

As in other models, the Surface Book 2 screen is separated with a satisfactory click, Microsoft informed us that the process of switching from laptop to tablet mode has been improved, making changing the form factor faster and easier.

Another nice addition is that if you use a program or application that requires dedicated graphics, you will be warned about this before disconnecting the screen from the keyboard base.

Performance:

If we talk about the performance of the Microsoft surface book 2 features 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. Which more than enough for the programming student to do multitasking and install his required softwares.

But if you think these specs are a bit higher than your requirements nothing to worry about. Surface Book 2 comes with different specifications like 8 GB 256 GB with core i5 and i7. Similarly with 16 GB 1 TB and 512 GB with Core i7 processor.

The main thing you have to worry about is the processor because it can’t be upgraded later. RAM, storage and the graphics card, if it is dedicated, can be upgraded later on with the increase in your needs or requirements.

 Storage:

Surface Book 2 offers  512 GB of hard drive good enough to store files, install application softwares and favorite shows for entertainment purposes. If you are already using a system with the SSD drive then you will feel the great difference in the performance.

But it’s not a deal-breaker thing you can add an additional SSD or simple HDD drive if required.

Screen and stylus Pen:

Microsoft surface book 2 features the 13.5 inches of the detachable touchscreen. With the help of the detachable screen, you can use the laptop in different modes just fold the screen and use the laptop as a studio mode. For drawing sketches and designs with the stylus pen in the natural position.

Moreover, you can also use the laptop as a stand mode or view mode for sharing presentations with your class-fellows. To transform the laptop to the stand mode you just have to remove the screen, turn it around, and reattach it.

Along with these two modes if you are just relaxing and want some entertainment. So for that, you can simply remove the screen from the Microsoft surface book 2 and use it as a tablet.

Overall, if we talk about the screen resolution and width it has 13.5 inches of a wide touchscreen with the max resolution of  3000 x 2000 pixels.

Graphics:

The 13.5-inch Surface Book 2 laptop equipped with the dedicated graphics card of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050. That allows you to run and enjoy most probably all the modern games with some low graphics settings.

But if you do not mind lowering the graphic settings or sticking to older and less graphically demanding games, you can easily play most of the titles.

Connectivity Ports:

On the sides are two full-sized USB 3.1 ports, a USB-C port (which we are glad to see) and a full-sized SD-card reader, which is another important addition. The headphone jack port is located in the upper right corner of the screen, which is a strange place to install in laptop mode because it means that the headphone wire will interfere with your work, but this solution makes a little more sense when you use Surface Book 2 as a tablet.

Charging is carried out through its own “Surface Connect” port, and the charger is attached with magnets. Which is quite satisfactory in a world without MagSafe. Overall, Surface Book 2 13.5 is undoubtedly a premium product.

Key Specifications:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro
  • CPU: 8th Generation Intel Core i7
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4
  • Storage: 512 GB
  • Screen: 13.5 Inches touchscreen with Surface Pen
  • Graphics: Dedicated Graphics card of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050

If you want our opinion about choosing the best laptop among these I would recommend HP Spectre X360 if you have a budget of more than 1000 dollars. And if you are low at the budget and want a laptop that supports your gaming too than you should opt for Asus VivoBook S.

Although you may also find some other models suitable for Software Engineering students. Let us know we will be glad to hear from you.
