Best Hackintosh Laptops For 2023- Reviews With Installation Guide

Best Hackintosh Laptops

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them…”

–Steve Jobs, 1997

Perhaps troublemakers around the world took Steve’s inspiring words to the heart when they built the first ‘Hackintosh’.

In 2005, when Apple ditched PowerPC for Intel, the misfits took it upon themselves to run the Macintosh Operating System on compatible hardware other than that of Apple. A few succeeded, and a community was born out of it. ‘Hackintosh’ entered into pop culture and has been trending since then.

It goes without saying that running Macintosh OS on Non-Apple Products has a monetary incentive attached to it. Plus, you can upgrade the hardware as you desire. The first Hackintosh laptop might have been built out of pure interest, but the reason why people prefer it today has to do with the affordability and flexibility it offers.

Period.

The first and foremost step to ‘Hackintosh’ is to have a compatible machine. While the PCs may offer a huge room for maneuverability, you have to be very cautious with the laptops: you can add only a few components to a laptop.

For your ease, we have compiled a list of the ‘The Best Hackintosh Laptops’. We have particularly made sure that these laptops are compatible with the most popular Macintosh OS versions. Also, we have added an installation guide with each of them so you don’t have to scour the internet for it.

Those who are already familiar with what a ‘Hackintosh’ is, and are here to find their next laptop for the purpose, should proceed directly to the list. The rest should stick with us, as we have to make a few things clear before you make a buying decision.

Let’s find out what is critical to know before ‘Hackintosh’.

What are the key requirements to be met for Hackintosh?

The three foremost requirements to be met are as follows:

  • The machine, on which you are going to install the Macintosh OS, must have a compatible CPU chip. Make sure that it is by Intel as AMD chips don’t support OS X.
  • You must have the latest OS X booted on a USB.
  • You won’t be able to pull off a miracle for the first time without help. Make sure you have access to an installation guide. Also, you must engage with the ‘Hackintosh Community’ to get step-by-step guidance as you install the OS.

We have added a list of the top forums at the end of this article. You are welcome to visit them.

Why should we prefer a Hackintosh laptop over a Macbook or other Apple products? Or Why Hackintosh?

Even though a Hackintosh Laptop might not give its 100%, it will save you a ton of money. Plus, as we already mentioned before, there is an option for upgradeability. Imagine building one beast of a laptop, and then running your favorite OS on it, and all that while paying nearly half the price of a Macintosh.

People, who use a Hackintosh Laptop,  tend to get the best of both worlds. No matter, how repugnant brand loyalists find this idea, it is exciting to run OS X on a way more powerful machine than Apple Macintosh.

What are some common issues with Hackintosh Laptops?

We have heard people bickering about the incompatibility of wifi cards and SD Card slots in a Hackintosh Laptop, and we found it to be completely unjustified.

We have not been able to find a laptop that could run Macintosh OS without a few glitches here and there. If you want to run the OS X flawlessly, better buy the Macbook for it.

A few common issues include

  1. As mentioned earlier, the incompatibility of the Wifi Card, Bluetooth, SD card slot, or even the Speaker of the laptop with OS X.
  2. You will really have to bend over backward to keep up with the updates of the Macintosh OS
  3. Very Often, a few keys stop working and so does the mouse cursor.
  4. Repeated and frustrated kernel modification.

Lenovo ThinkPad T430s—The cheapest Hackintosh laptop

$115.00  in stock
9 used from $115.00
Amazon.com
as of April 4, 2024 5:07 am
Processor: Core i5 i5-3230M @ 2.6GHz | Memory: 4GB | Storage: 500 GB HDD | Screen: 14-inch 1600 x 900 | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS Mojave

Lenovo Thinkpad t430s is not the most visually appealing laptop around, but it is certainly the cheapest one that you can Hackintosh. This Installation Guide vouch for the fact that this Thinkpad can run macOS Mojave quite smoothly, but not flawlessly.

Just to remind you, this ThinkPad, like all other laptops in our list, is not going to give 100% compatibility with the macOS. Wifi Card, SD card Reader are altogether incompatible, whereas some keyboard buttons might stop functioning after a while.

It is at the extreme end of the budget, where you want to build a Hackintosh just for fun without any practical usage. Why?

The specs are highly lacking for modern-day usage. It is equipped with 4GB RAM and an outdated third-generation Intel core i5 processor, which if you are familiar with laptops, can do a little above surfing the internet and running undemanding applications

One of its major drawbacks is its weight. Heavy laptops are a thing of the past: they are too heavy to carry around and too bulky to fit inside a bag. However, one thing that is unquestionably positive in these laptops is the sturdy build-up. You can count them on rugged laptops.

To conclude, this laptop is the best option for buyers on a strict budget who want to Hackintosh as a hobby.

Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Laptop—Best Budget Dell Laptop for Hackintosh

as of April 4, 2024 5:07 am

Processor:  Intel Core i5-7300HQ | Memory:  8GB DDR4 Memory | Storage: 256GB SSD | Screen:15.6-Inch Full HD  | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS High Sierra

Dell Inspiron 15 is famous for its durability, but that is not our primary concern in this review. When it comes to Hackintosh, this laptop gives you about 99% compatibility with the macOS High Sierra. You can find the detailed installation guide and some common issues while Hackintoshing this laptop here

We have enlisted all the striking features above except for the discrete graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Though having an enormous value for gamers, it becomes useless when they opt to Hackintosh the laptop. The latest versions of macOS are incompatible with the Nvidia Graphics cards, and it has more to do with the friction between the two giants(Apple and Nvidia) and less to do with hardware-software compatibility.

So if you are planning to run graphic-taxing games on your Hackintosh, you should better not update it to macOS Mojave.

Unlike Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, this laptop has the right built for high performance. It is equipped with a Quad-Core, 7th generation intel core i5 processor with 8GB memory size to run CPU-intensive applications. 256 GB SSD storage will give enhanced performance when compared to HDD, but it will definitely not be enough. Fortunately, you can upgrade the storage later.

Having multiple ports is a definite edge of this laptop, as if the Wifi card fails during Hackintosh, you can use a dongle to do the job.

You can go beyond running DIY experiments in this laptop, as it can smoothly run the macOS and can serve as a budget alternative of a Macbook.

ProcessorIntel Core i7-8550U | Memory:  16GB Memory | Storage:512GB SSD | Screen:13.3-Inch FHD IPS WLED Display | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS Mojave

Hp Spectre 360 is a top-of-the-line convertible series that owes its popularity to its sleek design and impressive display. Though not all its components are compatible with the macOS Mojave, It is an expensive alternative to Macbook Pro. You will save $1000 with this laptop; plus, you will get extra ports, better screen resolution, and a long key travel with specter 360.

Find an installation guide detailed guide here. It is by far the most exhaustive guide on Spectre 360 Hackintosh.

One critical component that will lose functionality is the discrete graphic card as macOS Mojave doesn’t support most of the Nvidia graphic cards. You will be stuck with Intel-integrated graphic chips which can hardly handle graphic-taxing applications.

Apart from the discrete graphic card, when you Hackintosh specter 360, don’t expect the sd card slot and trackpad to give optimal performance. You are better off buying a dongle than relying on the SD card Reader.

As far as the overall performance of this laptop is concerned, Intel Core i7-8550U and 16 GB memory enable it to handle heavy-duty tasks. You can flawlessly run CPU-intensive applications on it. Moreover, 512 GB SSD storage is just the right fit for an excellent laptop: it can read/write files with lightning speed.

Now coming to the features that really distinguish it: an impressive display and 2-in-1 feature. A full HD display offers a huge entertainment value, while the convertible feature allows it to be used as a tablet. For some, it will be music to ears that the Spectre’s touchscreen is fully functional with macOS Mojave.

ProcessorIntel Core Broadwell M-5Y10 0.8 GHz  | Memory:  8GB Memory | Storage:256GB SSD | Screen:13.3-Inch  IPS WLED Display | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS High sierra and OS X

ASUS Zenbook is the direct windows competitor of Macbook Air for being an ultrathin notebook. When you run the macOS on Zenbook, it feels like a budget Macbook air. You can find the installation guide here.

The only key difference between Zenbook and Macbook air is that of the processor. MacBook is equipped with a Core-i5 processor which is more powerful than the Core Broadwell M-5Y10 processor. The latter (M series processor) is fanless and thus quiet, so are suitable only to run less-demanding applications.

Another major drawback of this laptop is the short battery life, as compared to Macbook Air. But then you are looking at a machine that weighs less Macbook Air–once the thinnest laptop on Earth. It is highly portable.

Zenbook is far better than Macbook Air in Display as its FHD IPS panel can achieve deeper black levels, crisper whites, and more vivid colors than the MacBook’s TN panel. Also, it is a matte screen which means that you won’t have an issue using this laptop in direct sunlight or in a room with high brightness.

Given the ultrathin design of the laptop, it is truly surprising that it is featuring 256 GB SSD hard Drive which is a clear advantage over Macbook Air. The latter comes with a preinstalled 128 GB SSD which you can upgrade later.

Running macOS on the zen book will not be noticeably different from running it on Macbook Air, as both laptops have more or less similar specs. However, one obvious advantage you have is of price. The only two things you are going to compromise on, is the computing power and the battery life.

Processor:  Intel Quad-Core i5-8265U  | Memory: 16GB Memory | Storage:256GB SSD+ 1TB HDD | Screen:15.6-Inch  Anti-glare LED-backlit | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS High sierra and OS X and previous versions.

Hp Probook is a mid-range laptop that is closer in looks to Macbook Pro. However, in performance, it might beat the expensive Mac. It is highly compatible with macOS High Sierra and all the previous versions of Macintosh.

You can find a comprehensive installation guide here. It also includes the most common issues while Hackintosh this model: wireless card and fingerprint sensor failure.

Both Hp Probook and Asus Zenbook are considered the Windows variant of Macs. Probook has the same performance level as the Macbook pro, whereas Zenbook has many design aspects in common with the Macbook air, particularly its ultra-thin appearance.

What we found to be the most striking feature in this laptop is the combination of SSD and HDD drive for storage. Expensive SSD adds speed; cheap HDD provides space. 16 GB RAM is another feature in Probook that deserves appreciation. This laptop would never run out of storage and has more than enough RAM to handle multitasking.

Pro book has a large screen size, 15.6 inches to be specific, to give you the best entertainment value. In addition to this, it has an FHD display resolution with anti-glare protection. You can use it outdoors.

The processor of this laptop, though not the most powerful, is pretty decent for entry level gaming and video editing. The Quad-Core i5, 8th generation processor is perfectly suitable for the run of the mill computing tasks like web surfing, video playback and processing spreadsheets.

Dell XPS 15 9560—The elite Dell laptop for Hackintosh

Processor:  Intel i7-7700HQ Quad Core  | Memory: 32GB RAM | Storage: 1TB SSD | Screen: 15.6 4K UHD Display | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS Mojave and OS X and previous versions.

Dell XPS is essentially a Macbook pro with a touch screen. Find the installation guide here.

It is by all means an expensive convertible and we will encourage you to use it with Windows 10. And, rather than running macOS on it, buy the Macbook pro which comes in nearly the same price range.

But if you are still adamant, there are a few pitfalls that you should fully consider before the Hackintosh. You won’t be able to run the graphic card as the latest macOS doesn’t support Nvidia GTX 1050. You will lose the gaming and rendering capability of the laptop.
Also, you will be unable to use the SD card, fingerprint sensor, and perhaps the thunderbolt port( depending upon the success of the boot).

The bright sides of Hackintosh are few, and in our humble opinion are not worth it. You will get the most powerful CPU, RAM combination. A quad-core, 7th generation processor with 32 GB RAM certainly makes XPS one beast of a laptop. As if that was not enough, it is housing an ultra-fast 1000 GB SSD storage.

The real value of this laptop comes from the 4k Ultra HD Display. It covers 100% sRGB gamut which means that the image you get will be highly saturated with the best viewing angle.

All these features point towards one particular purpose of this laptop: video production. There are a few better than this for the job. However, the high performance capability of this laptop also makes it less power efficient. But it is an inevitable trade-off.

Processor:  Intel Core i7-8550U processor  | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 1TB SSD | Screen: 13.9″ 4K UHD Touch-Screen Display | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS Mojave and previous versions.

You will have very little to lose when you Hackintosh this Lenovo laptop. The greatest advantage with this convertible is of course the touchscreen and the flexibility: you can use it in three different modes.

It is by far the best touchscreen laptop to Hackintosh. You can look into the guide to get familiar with the installation process.

The absence of a discrete graphics card in this laptop makes it highly suitable for Hackintosh as macOS Mojave is not compatible with several graphic cards. (especially that of Nvidia) You won’t have to pull apart the laptop and deactivate the graphic card.

The U series intel core i7 processor is far less powerful than the HQ series processors, but it has the benefit of being power efficient. You will get hours and hours of battery life on this laptop. It is housing an integrated Intel UHD 620 to allow for entry-level gaming.

16 GB RAM and 1 GB SSD storage are all ordinary users who need a decent laptop to have a seamless experience. Fast reading/writing speed of files and large memory capacity, aid its CPU to efficiently handle multitasking without performance throttling.

Last but not least, it boasts an impressive 4k ultra HD display to give you the best colour accuracy, and top-rate contrast, brightness and colour. It is designed to add a lot of value in the life of Creative professionals, especially graphic designers and illustrators.

Razer Blade—15Best Gaming laptop for hackintosh

 out of stock
Amazon.com
as of April 4, 2024 5:07 am

Processor:  8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H 6 core processor  | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD | Screen: 15.6” Full HD edge-to-edge display (4.9mm bezels) | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS High Sierra and previous versions.

Razer Blade 15 is indeed the best portable gaming laptop, but when hackintoshed, it loses one of its backbone: Nvidia  GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q (6 GB)Discrete Graphic. The chip has to be disabled as it doesn’t work with the latest versions of Macintosh, including the one (macOS High Sierra)we have added an Installation guide

However, there is a way around it. You can use the card on external devices using HDMI out port. But, there is a catch, you won’t be able to save on battery life by Hackintosh(disabling the unfunctional card is the most logical decision to cut down power consumption of a Hackintosh laptop.)

To get the best out of it, we insist that you use this gaming laptop with windows. The Max-Q variant of GTX 1060 is somewhat less powerful than its other siblings Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and 1070, but is power efficient and doesn’t overheat. Nevertheless, it can cater to the needs of hardware-demanding gaming titles.

Next to the graphic card, the most powerful component is its Intel Core i7-8750H (6 core) processor. To put things into perspective, it is 4th from the top of the list of the most powerful Intel CPUs.  When Hackintosh, you can take advantage of its built-in Intel UHD 630 graphics to run basic games and photo editing.

The robust CPU is complemented by equally mighty 16 GB RAM and a 128GB SSD to give you lightning-fast computing speed. The memory is upgradeable to 32 GB, whereas, 1 TB HDD also comes preinstalled in this laptop so you should not face storage capacity issues.

To conclude, Razer Blade Blade is regarded as the fastest hackintosh laptop as it surpasses Macbook Pro in performance despite costing less. However, it is quite unreasonable to use a gaming laptop for a purpose other than what it is built for.

Acer Aspire 7— Best Acer laptop for Hackintosh

as of April 4, 2024 5:07 am

Processor:  8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H 6 core processor  | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 256 GB SSD  | Screen: 15.6” Full HD edge-to-edge display (4.9mm bezels) | Compatible Macintosh OS: macOS Mojave and previous versions.

Find here the Installation Guide for Acer Aspire 7.

This laptop has a lot of similarities with the Razer blade model we discussed above. However, it is relatively inexpensive and heavy.

Just like Razerblade, you will have to do away with the Nvidia Graphic card, if you choose to Hackintosh it to run macOS Mojave. But, there are a couple of other compatibility issues that you might face. You won’t be able to use the HDMI port. Also, a few keys might lose functionality: brightness control.

The computing power is nearly the same as that of Razer Blade 15, but its processor is more power-intensive. You will have to live with its short battery life.

16 DDR3 type memory is less power-efficient, and less powerful than DDR4 type. But the difference is unnoticeable. As far as the storage is concerned, this laptop is a real bummer. Not that the 256 SSD is not fast enough, but the capacity would be the main issue you will face.

This laptop is heavy, real heavy. So, you should not think about carrying it with you more often. The weight is primarily due to the cooling system required to keep up with the powerful, and so overheating, components.

Lastly, it has a 17.3-inch display, the largest screen size in laptops. Its FHD IPS panel covers a wide color gamut and thus provides a vivid display and outstanding color accuracy and screen consistency. This laptop is ideal for gaming and desk work.

Hp Envy has a lot in common with the Hp specter, and it could be Hackintosh in the same way as But, it is less expensive and smaller in size. Both these models by Hp are popular for their ultra-thin design which, according to experts, but Apple MacBooks to shame.

The Hackintosh on this laptop works fine except for some minor issues with the fingerprint sensor and speakers of the laptop. Like many laptops in our list, its Nvidia Graphic card is incompatible with the macOS Mojave: the inevitable sacrifice you will have to make in Hackintosh laptops.

But fast graphic rendering is not the major strength of this laptop. The eminent feature is its 4K display with a high brightness level. It provides great entertainment value due to its extraordinary display which is matchless when it comes to saturation, sharpness, and color accuracy.

However, the 4k model has a major downside. It consumes a lot of power and thus this laptop might not live up to your expectations in terms of battery life.

It is a well-rounded laptop in the choice of hardware. The 8th generation Intel Core i7-8565U saves energy and is not power-intensive, whereas, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD storage also helps the processor to remain power-efficient, and yet doesn’t compromise on performance.

In the end, it is worth mentioning that this laptop doesn’t come cheap, though way is cheaper than the Macbook pro. So if you are looking for 100% Macintosh compatibility, better go for the original mac by spending a little extra than to have a messed up Hackintosh laptop.

FAQs:

What is Hackintosh, Hackintosher, a prebuilt hackintosh, and a hackbook pro?

Hackintosh: To run Apple Macintosh Operating System on computer hardware not authorized for the use of Apple. A Hackintosh Laptop is also referred to as a Hackbook, Hackintosher.

Hackbook Pro: A portable PC “hacked” to run OSX86. A Hackbook is the equivalent of an Apple Macbook, and a Hackbook Pro is the equivalent of an Apple Macbook Pro.

Prebuilt Hackintosh: As the name suggests, pre-built Hackintosh laptops have all the necessary components to run a Desired Macintosh OS.

How to make, and build a Hackintosh laptop?

Well, it is hard to put into words the details of building a Hackintosh in such a short space. Therefore, I have added the most exhaustive, yet digestible, resource I could find to help you with it. Ernie Smith has done an excellent job of explaining the nitty-gritty of building a Hackintosh Laptop. You can find it in the link attached below.

How to Turn a Windows Laptop Into the Touchscreen Hackintosh of Your Dreams

Are Hackintosh laptops reliable?

I have found this question on many platforms, and it is a valid one. As it turns out individual experience doesn’t count when making such a generalization, so I turned to the same forums to infer the answer from user experience.

The answer came to be a ‘Big No’.

The frequent recommendation, I came across, is to always backup all your data while running a ‘Hackintosh’.

Is using Hackintosh Illegal?

There is no definitive answer to that. To cut a long story short, you can’t sell a Hackintosh but you can use it for personal needs.

Is a Hackintosh laptop worth the money you are going to spend?

I would say It’s worth every cent. You will save on hundreds,if not thousands, of dollars if you choose to buy an inexpensive machine instead of Apple Macbooks to run your favourite Macintosh OS. Also, you will have the flexibility to upgrade the hardware without having to pay through the nose for it.

How to check Hackintosh compatibility of a laptop?

Unfortunately, there is no laptop to check the compatibility for Hackintosh. You will have to read threads on popular forums and have to reach out to the ‘Hackintosh community’ to find it out. I have mentioned the most popular resource in the following answer.

What are the most valuable websites to know the ins and outs of Hackintosh?

Given you are into ‘Hackintosh’ for a while, you can do nothing but agree with me here. The following are, by far, the most valuable platforms to turn to if you want to dive deeper into ‘Hackintosh’.
